American Airlines confirmed to TPG that one of our favorite Flagship First perks is back — and it’s rolling out to Flagship Business, too.
Espresso drinks have returned on some American Airlines flights.
Passengers can now request specialized coffee drinks made in a real espresso machine on some of AA’s planes on international flights and premium transcontinental flights as well. The news was first flagged on X by @xJonNYC and reported by One Mile at a Time.
The airline is offering espresso drinks on Boeing 777-200 aircraft for the first time. Traditionally, American Airlines only offered espresso drinks in its true first-class cabins on the Airbus A321T and the Boeing 777-300ER jets, which are outfitted with both Flagship First and Flagship Business seats. It’s offering drinks from the pod espresso machines on more airplanes and to many more passengers.
Espressos are also now available on American’s Boeing 787s.
The airline halted espresso service during the COVID-19 pandemic and hadn’t previously offered it to business-class passengers. Now it’s on the Boeing 777-200, Boeing 777-300, 787 and A321T planes; it’s available in business class, too.

The ability to order a stronger shot of caffeine was one of my favorite features in first class. So, I’m super excited I’ll now be able to do it in business class, too.
It’s nice to see additional service touches added as we await new cabins coming soon from American. The airline is eliminating its first-class cabin for an overhauled business-class cabin — one that will increase the number of premium seats — on all the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. It will also soon take delivery of Airbus A321XLRs with brand-new Flagship Business cabins.
