Attention, American Airlines members: Now is a good time to check your American Airlines AAdvantage account, as you may be targeted for a bonus miles (or Loyalty Points) promotion when booking a flight in a premium cabin before the end of the year.
We’ve seen offers that could give you up to 20,000 bonus AAdvantage miles. Most people are not being offered Loyalty Points; however, we have read some reports that members are getting a choice of earning either Loyalty Points or bonus miles. Though earning bonus miles won’t help you earn elite status with American, additional Loyalty Points could be useful if you’re chasing elite status with the carrier.
Be sure to check carefully, especially if you need more Loyalty Points to reach your status goals.
To see if you’ve been targeted, log into your AAdvantage account, go to your account summary and click on “Promotions.”
As you can see, my offer was for 5,000 bonus miles after flying two premium cabin flights by Dec. 19. Note that I need to book by Nov. 11.
There are lots of terms and restrictions:
- You need to register by Nov. 11.
- You need to book flights after registering, so old bookings won’t count.
- You’ll need to book premium fares, meaning ones for Flagship First, first class, business class and premium economy.
- You’ll need to fly by Dec. 19.
- Only American Airlines-operated flights count (no partners).
- There are blackout dates: Nov. 22 and 30 and Dec. 1 and 2.

Bottom line
As far as we can tell, most AAdvantage members were targeted for the airline’s latest promotion. While it’s not that exciting of an offer, we’ll always take more AAdvantage miles (or Loyalty Points, for some lucky members).
